Why Do Pilots Wear Uniform

Well some sort of WWI style uniform is not what passengers would really want to see their pilot to wear. An airline company called Pan Am issued the first ever "pilots uniforms" similar to sea skippers/naval officers in 1930s. This was to make their pilots look more "professional", and thus make passengers more confident and comfortable with the trip.
